Community of Steilacoom

In 1854 Steilacoom was the first incorporated town in Washington State. It serves as a "bedroom" community for Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It got its name from the Steilacoom Tribe which is indigenous to the area. The main industry in the area was processing logs exported to San Francisco. The city boasts the first jail and lumber mill in Washington State and one of two state run mental hospitals (Western State Hospital is located on the site of what was Fort Steilacoom).

There are a variety of events hosted by the city of Steilacoom throughout the year. In June they hold the "The Man Market" event where venders will be selling an assortment of Fathers Day Gifts. To celebrate the 4th of July the city has a fun run, parade, a family street dance party and fireworks. In early December there is an annual tree lighting event located at the Town Hall.
